Shanghai International Symposium on Liver Cancer & Hepatitis
In 1986, authorized by the Science and Technology Committee of China (now known as Ministry of Science and Technology), the first Shanghai International Symposium on Liver Cancer & Hepatitis was organized by the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai and convened in Shanghai Science Hall on 15-17 January. Professor Hans Popper (the first president of International Association for the Study of Liver) and Professor Kunio Okuda (the sixth president of International Association for the Study of Liver) as well as European renowned hepatitis scholar Professor Friedrich Deinhardt were participated as Co-chairmen. The Mayor of Shanghai at that time, Mr. Ze-min Jiang (½ÔóÃñ) was the Guest of Honor for the opening ceremony. Over 150 participants from 20 countries worldwide attended this remarkable Symposium. The second and third Symposium were held in 1991 and 1996 respectively.
Scientific Meeting of Cheng Si Yuan (China-Int'l) Hepatitis Research Foundation
In 1998, over 700 specialists and researchers from around the world attended the 1 st International Academic Conference of Cheng Si Yuan (China-Int'l) Hepatitis Research Foundation cum Symposium on Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis B held in Shenzhen. A national consensus meeting on the treatment of hepatitis B infection was organized in the meeting. The result of the consensus meeting has been published in the top national hepatology journals and released to the public via the Ministry of Health, the Standing Committee of the National People Congress and the press.
International Liver Congress (ILC)
To enhance the exchange of scientific views on hepatology, the two mentioned meetings joint together and formed International Liver Congress. The first congress was jointly organized by Cheng Si Yuan (China-Int'l) Hepatitis Research Foundation and the Shanghai Organizing Committee [Shanghai Medical University, Shanghai Second Medical University, Second Military Medical University, Chinese Academy of Science and Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau] in 2000 (Shanghai) and the second congress in 2004 (Hong Kong).
Since 2004, it has become a biennial congress being held in Hong Kong and Shanghai alternatively. With the participation of a large panel of renowned experts and wide recognition from the industry, the third congress in 2006 has attracted 2433 delegates. The congress has not only provided a deep understanding of the serious consequences of viral hepatitis, but also a n excellent "Platform to Link Up Chinese and the International Medical Communities".
