My warmest congratulations to the Cheng Si Yuan (China - International) Hepatitis Research Foundation and the Shanghai Organising Committee on their commendable effort in successfully staging the Hong Kong - Shanghai International Liver Congress 2008.

Liver diseases are more common among Asians. It is no doubt that healthcare professionals should constantly keep abreast of the latest knowledge to strive for the best of patients in the region. The Congress is a remarkable biannual event held alternatively in Shanghai and Hong Kong, signifying the close collaboration between experts in both places. It has always been a useful platform for academic exchanges in the latest development in hepatology. I am sure this year's Congress will again stimulate scientific researches in the field, contribute to the advancement of medical management of liver diseases, and therefore benefit patients who suffer from liver diseases.

I wish the Congress a great success, and for all participants a fruitful discussion and a most enjoyable stay in Hong Kong.
